The Books
The Omeria Trilogy is inspired by my visit to Crete, where I was introduced to the ancient Minoan culture. I have also found inspiration from the ancient civilizations of North Africa and the Middle East. The times that I depict are the rough equivalent to our Bronze Age societies or earlier.
This trilogy is my first foray into the fantasy genre and I find it amazingly liberating as well as an effective vehicle for examining contemporary issues such as feminism, equality, and democracy movements. My protagonist, Omneta, evolves from a fifteen- year- old village girl who is only vaguely aware of the injustice that is growing in her homeland to a fully-aware young woman who joins the resistance as one of its most compelling leaders.
